Role and Responsibility of Being a Father

This is Part 2 of my Articles on Father’s Day

Role and Responsibility of Being a Father

The role of being a Father is an awesome responsibility. So many of us, in the past, had to ” learn on the job!”

As I look back on my own experience, as the father of five, I can see many things I would have done differently.

If you were fortunate enough to have a loving and encouraging father who was a good role model, you are truly blessed. The chances are, that you in turn, will have the potential to be a good father yourself. It would be great if this was guaranteed.

One of the sad facts of life is that those, who had a father who was not a good role model, have a high risk of  perpetuating  the  poor parenting process.

Today there is so much information available on “Parenting; it is simply a matter of seeking it out.

Those of you who have young children or are looking forward to that exciting, though challenging experience, I would encourage you to get all the help and advice you can from responsible and reliable sources.

Remember there is no such thing as a natural or a perfect parent !

One of the most important keys to good fathering is to “Know yourself “. Know your strengths and your limitations

7 Keys to Being a Good Father

Transport Bali Style

1. Start early and don’t stop.  Be involved from the day your child comes home for the hospital.

2. Be a role model. Be open and transparent and lead by example.  Children will   recognise a phony very quickly.

3. Love unconditionally. You may not approve of certain behaviour but always “approve ” your child. Not only tell your child that you love him or her, but demonstrate that love;  show genuine affection

4. Teach your child values. Practice Honesty and Responsibility and Moral values

5.Be there for your child. One of the big problems today is the “absent father”. Physical absence is sometimes unavoidable, but emotional absence is another issue. Spend some quality time with your child

6. Be an encourager. Acknowledge and celebrate your child’s achievements.

7.Discipline is essential. An un-disciplined child is a confused child. Children need structure and to be given limits. If they break the rules, disciple  must be prompt, fair and have a reasonable limit.

I would recommend the book below, by  of one of the worlds leading experts on Child rearing and Family relationships,  as an excellent source of information to help you, my reader, to achieve your goals of “being a good father”
